| Description | Letters sent to Ernest de Selincourt regarding research on the literary works of the Romantic poet John Keats (1795 -1821). Also includes some research notes by Selincourt on Keats, a copy of a sketch of Keats dating to 1819 and a letter from Ann Flaxman (c1760-1820) addressed to 'The Bard', Hayley (William Hayley 1745–1820) Esq, July 3rd 1805, with unknown provenance. |
| Admin History | Selincourt, Ernest De (1870–1943), literary scholar and university teacher. Educated at Huddersfield College and then in 1885 at Dulwich College, matriculated at University College, Oxford in 1890. 1893 to 1895 lectured at Bedford College, and gave tutorials at Oxford; 1896 lecturer in English literature at University College, and in 1899, university lecturer in modern English literature; December 1908 elected to the chair of English literature at Birmingham University; 1919 became dean of the faculty of arts, and in 1931 vice-principal, retired from Birmingham University in 1935. Selincourt was also the brother of Agnes De Selincourt (1872–1917), Principal of Westfield College 1913-1917. |
