DescriptionThis sub-series contains minute books of Household Committee meetings held between 1890-1965, which dealt with all matters concerning domestic management.

Topics covered include domestic staff required, appointments and dismissals of domestic staff, household accounts, reports of the Mistress/Principal and Housekeeper/Bursar, student regulations, fire precautions, health and diet, arrangements for events and conferences, equipment, furnishings, decoration, repairs, use of buildings, and maintenance of gardens.
Admin HistoryThe Household Committee was the first permanent sub committee of the Council set up in 1890. Its terms of reference were to control all aspects of domestic management and to keep the College freehold property in good order which included approving furnishings and new decoration schemes.

The chairmen of the Committee meetings initially differed from meeting to meeting and included Miss Dudin Brown on occasion. It was predominantly chaired by Mr John Henry Master and Mr Maurice Hulbert between 1890-1918, Miss S.M. Smee between 1918-1925, and the Principal; Miss Eleanor Lodge 1925-1931, Dorothy Chapman 1931-1939, Mary Stocks 1939-1951, Kathleen Chesney 1951-1962, Pamela Matthews 1962-1965.
