The design is a shield in black and gold with the emblems of a hand, book, and a bear's paw. The cross and the book are taken from the coat of arms of the University of London, the left hand 'main', is from the crest of Constance Maynard, and the brown bear's claw is taken from Mrs Sarah Benedict Brown's coat of arms honouring both Mrs Brown, a benefactress of the College, and Miss Ann Dudin Brown, the founder and benefactress of Westfield College.

Also includes a slide of the final design; correspondence and papers with the College of Arms regarding the design of the College grant of arms; orders for blazers, ties and badges; correspondence concerning a college flag featuring the coat of arms; and enquiries about the coat of arms, 9 Jan 1933 - 30 Mar 1971.

Also includes correspondence and papers regarding the proposed armorial bearings for Queen Mary and Westfield College, 31 Jul 1987 - May 1988.
