Box Two

QMC/Artefacts/16: Wooden presentation shield from The State of Qatar. The Shield is composed of a fixed wooden façade with a typical gulf-region carved door in the middle. Behind the door lies a brass plate bearing the logo of the Ministry of Education, the flag and the map of the State of Qatar, and the Ministry's name both in English and Arabic. Inscribed 'To Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London on the occasion of my visit Abdul Aziz Abdullah Torki Al-Sabaie, Minister of Education, May 1996' In original hard presentation case embossed with gold stamp and containing a page explaining the symbolism of the shield.
QMC/Artefacts/17: Cassette tape of the memorial service for Robert Tong OBE held at St. Paul's Church, Bentley Common on 28th January 1995, accompanied by a handwritten card addressed to Robert Tong, registrar and secretary of Queen Mary College 1946 - 1979 'from his colleagues and friends with gratitude and love'. [Presumably meant to be with a retirement gift which may or may not be in collection]
QMC/Artefacts/18: [Brass] wind up pocket watch with Roman numeral face in working order and containing a monogram on the back 'CKW'.
QMC/Artefacts/19: Commemorative coin for the 500th Anniversary of the Yeoman Warders in 1985. Silver, engraved on both sides. In original box stamped The Royal Mint.
QMC/Artefacts/20: Medal for The Queen's Award for Environmental Achievement and The Queen's Award for Export Achievement, 1993. These are two separate awards but are marked on each side of the medal. Gold in Colour. In [presumably] original plastic casing. Unsure of original recipient.
QMC/Artefacts/21: Small silver coloured oval dish/tray with feet. Stamped with makers mark on the base.
QMC/Artefacts/22: Small decorative screen, consisting of four hinged panels framed in wood and containing hand painted stone [perhaps marble] panels. On one side the panels are painted with flowers and the other landscapes. China c.1980s.
QMC/Artefacts/23: Square ceramic tile in presentation box. Tile is decorated with a decorative script and writing and is marked as made in China on the reverse. Presentation box is original and covered in decorative silk. c.1980s.
QMC/Artefacts/24: Engraved presentation plate from the QMC Association, Singapore, for Queen Mary College Centenary Celebration 1985/86. 17 April 1986. Also engraved with a wreath of flowers. Made in Singapore and still bearing original makers sticker on reverse. QMC/Artefacts/25: Engraved presentation plate from the QMC Alumni, Malaysia, for Queen Mary College Centenary Celebration 1986 - 20 April 1986. Also engraved with decorative border. Made of pewter.
QMC/Artefacts/26: Decorative presentation plate engraved with a traditional picture of a man and a child and some script. With a wooden display stand. [Asian origins]
QMC/Artefacts/27: Small wooden display stand, Indian Rosewood with makers sticker on base. Original object for display not located. c.1990s.
